Unprecedented\nglobal challenges<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>

\n\n<\/p>

At no time in the\nhistory of the World Student Christian Federation has the task of empowering\nstudents been more important than now. Compared to previous generations, young\npeople today face unprecedented challenges in virtually every aspect of their\nlives due to a rapidly changing world marked by deepening divisions, a world at\nthe brink of existential collapse and a world fragmented by wars. 
<\/span>At the same time, the\nWorld Student Christian Federation itself is facing an unprecedented\nexistential crisis.<\/span>  <\/span>Many of its member\nmovements, the lifeblood of the Federation, have been weakened, others have\nceased to exist. Yet those that remain continue their work of empowering\nstudents for peace and social justice against enormous odds. Funds to support\nthe vital work of the Federation with and among students and youth are\ndwindling each year as churches themselves face multiple crises, including\ndeclining support from their congregations. The vital link between the\nFederation, the church and the ecumenical movement has never been more\nimportant.<\/span><\/p>

<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nWSCF in Asia and the Pacific<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>

\n\n<\/p>

The WSCF in Asia and\nthe Pacific has not been spared these challenges. The same global challenges\ntranslate into specific contextual challenges for youth and students in the\nregion. Diminishing resources at the global level have resulted in reduced\nresources for the region.  Nevertheless,\nthe WSCF Asia-Pacific region continues to be a beacon of hope and unity for\nyouth and students, empowering them to think critically in the light of the\nChristian faith and to act courageously to transform their communities and the\nworld.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A unique\nspace<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>

\n\n<\/p>

The WSCF is not just a\nstudent and youth movement.  It is also a\nspace that brings together multiple generations at global, regional, local, and\nnational levels. This uniqueness is a gift because it not only ensures the\nsharing of different perspectives, but also helps to ensure continuity as\nstories and insights are passed on from one generation to the next. And in\ntimes of great need, Senior Friends organise themselves to raise financial and\nother resources and put them at the service of the WSCF. From informal networks\nto more formal organisations such as the WSCF Trustees in the USA, Senior\nFriends have played and continue to play a vital role in supporting the WSCF.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
